Yin Yoga
Yin yoga is a combination of Traditional Hatha Yoga and various disciplines from Chinese Taoism. The concepts of Yin and Yang arise from this. Yin is the feminine aspect that is present in everything. Yang is the male aspect. When Yin and Yang are in balance, you are healthy and resilient.
More active forms of yoga, including Yang, Vinyasa, Ashtanga, or Power Yoga, are often mainly focused on the Yang energy (stronger muscles, a strong mind). Yin yoga focuses on the feminine aspect, specifically: coming home to yourself, letting go in mildness and surrendering to the way it is now We stimulate the tissues that lie deeper in the body, such as muscle fascia, bones, tendons, and joints. And we focus on the meridians, energy channels, that run through our body.
These tissues and meridians benefit from a different approach than we are used to from Yang forms of yoga. By staying in one pose for a long time and focusing on relaxation, you can stimulate them.
You are most welcome to join a Yin Yoga class on Friday mornings. Register via the class schedule.
